Welcome
Chelsie Mathews for Albany County Assessor
Experienced Fair Dedicated
Experienced Fair Dedicated
I was appointed by our County Commission as County Assessor in November of 2021. I began working in the Assessor's office in 2009 and have held several different positions throughout the office. I believe this experience is crucial to understanding all the different responsibilities of the County Assessor's office. I have held the required certification as a property appraiser since 2010 and attend continuing education classes and workshops to maintain this certification. I understand and follow all the Wyoming State Statues and Rules and Regulations that guide the mass appraisal process. I have also built good interworking relationships with local city offices, other county departments, and local businesses who rely on the County Assessor's data. I have attended several Wyoming Assessor Association meetings and am a member of the International Association of Assessing Officers. I understand the importance of every tax dollar collected and also understand I work for the tax payer. Serving the County, the public, and the taxpayer is my passion.
I was born and raised in Laramie, WY. I graduated from the Laramie High School and from the University of Wyoming. I left Laramie 3 times and returned each time. I love Laramie, the community, and the people. My husband, Joe and I have been married for 14 years and have two beautiful and smart teenage daughters, Taylor and Sammie. My mom is a local business owner as were my grandparents so I understand the value of hard work and dedication. I love spending time outdoors, reading, and taking pictures. I am a 3rd generation member of Soroptimist of Laramie, a local non-profit who's mission is to improve the lives of women and girls.
The most important of goals is to assess property fairly and equitably. I also hope to build taxpayer trust, improve taxpayer education, and work with legislation to voice taxpayer concerns. I have an open door policy and want tax payers to feel comfortable coming in and asking questions. I plan to hold several educational opportunities for the public to learn how the Assessor does their job and why. I am currently working on rebuilding the County Assessor website to include a power point on how the process works. I am also working with legislators and other County Assessors to help our taxpayers with high inflation in property values. I believe education is power and transparency is key.
